Not my Season 8

If you are one of the multi-million viewers of Game of Thrones this season, you may be part of the large group of people who have been left highly underwhelmed and disappointed. Some people are so disappointed that a petition to remake the entire season has already garnished 500,000 signatures. From the poor character development, the rushed storylines, the dark lighting, and the random coffee cups, it seems as if this season has just not hit the same bar that prior seasons have had. As we prepare for the series finale on Sunday, let’s look back at a view of the episodes that made this series such a phenomenon.

Season 1, Episode 1 (Winter is Coming)

Ah the good old days. The beginning of the series that introduced us to so many wonderful characters such as the Stark family. Episode 1 really gave us a full background of this family that we have grown to love more and more as the seasons progressed. This episode also gave us a brief intro to the history of the 7 kingdoms, while wading us into the vast character pool that is Game of Thrones.

Season 1, Episode 10 (Fire and Blood)

After reeling from the prior episode with the great patriarch of the Stark family meeting his untimely demise from the hand of Ser Ilyn Payne, we are introduced to the hard truth of the series: do NOT get close to a character. Meanwhile, we also get the scene from the Northerners with Robb Stark proclaiming him king of the North over the Baratheon brothers. Poor Dany loses the love of her life along with her child, but we finally get the first three dragons born in decades.

Season 2, Episode 10 (Blackwater)

What an episode for Tyrion. He truly shined while we also experienced the first large-scale battle of the series. The appearance of the wicked wildfire also made for a great trap against Stannis’ army.

Season 3, Episode 2 (The Lion and the Rose)

Before delving into the Purple Wedding, I must talk about Stannis. He may not be the greatest dad in the world, (see season 5, episode 9) but in this episode you truly can feel the love he has for his daughter when he comes to her defense against his wife. Then, as far as shocking deaths go, let's get into the Purple Wedding. Death shouldn’t be a pleasing thing, but I truly believe no one was unhappy to see the terrible Joffrey be poisoned.

Season 6, Episode 9 (Battle of the Bastards)

Speaking of pleasing deaths...Poor Sansa really has had one of the toughest journeys throughout the show. Being forced into marrying the creature that was Ramsay Bolton, to the unspeakable hell that she faced at the hands of that monster, it was only fitting that she spared his death at the hands of Jon to deliver a punishment that would make even Cersei proud.

Season 7, Episode 1 (Dragonstone)

Did anyone else have literal chills when Dany was experiencing Dragonstone? The lack of dialogue during the scene makes us truly feel like we are experiencing it with her. Also, in this episode, we have Arya as our mvp for getting her revenge on the Frey family for what the Red Wedding did to her family.

With just a remembrance of the greatness that the show was, let's all strap in for the series finale on Sunday to see how our favorite show ends. Fingers-crossed that we have a somewhat resolving finale that makes this train wreck of a season salvageable.
