“X”-ing out the Ordinary

#3 series overview by Jordan Beter (former CATv member)

The Gifted may sound like a fluffy, whimsical kind of show, but you'd be sadly mistaken. This isn't your typical supernatural show. October 2nd at 9 Fox is set to unveil the new contribution to Marvel's Legion, promising to be action packed and true to it's X-men vibes.

Here is the plot premise. Two ordinary parents take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive. Now you may been murmuring to yourself about how this has been done before and so forth, but the shows creators have already addressed this by taking away the main focal points we are used to.

This series, contracted for 10 seasons, is a step away from the Cyclops and Wolverine we already love. Focusing on one unfamiliar and unknown family is an interesting approach and tactic to potentially create a whole new fan base for the Marvel empire. Stripping all preconceived notions of that mutant movie and series and then plugging in new powers, new turns is an intellectual move even Professor Xavier couldn't predict.

Fox is definitely stepping more and more into a well tailored suit of heroism and family friendly syfy with just enough humor and action to engage us all. Showing a trailer filled with impressive special effects, tons of nail biting brawls, and dramatic undertones, I am instantly siding with the protagonist for this one and rooting,  “Mutant lives Matter.”
