Charcon 2019

Ground floor of the Clay Center from the back of the convention. This floor had vendors while floors 2 and 3 had games for playing.

This year we were invited to Charcon to cover it’s events and to show what it has to offer to the community and I’m happy to say this was one of the best times I’ve ever had at a convention! I got to participate in several games that were developed by local game companies as well see several really awesome cosplays. Not to mention the vendors that were kind enough to give some of the CATV members deals on their merchandise.

To start off the convention I tried out something called Warren Lords, a game where you face off against your opponent using an army of rabbits. Your enemy chooses the character piece you move through terrain on the map and the first one with no more characters wins! This is an exciting and tactical game that stokes the fires of your mind and keeps you on your toes, it has far more to it than I can do it justice in a short article. Then it was off to a great time with an artist drawing challenge! Local artists had a time limit and were tasked to draw audience requests, of which they got to choose from of course. This was a blast and hopefully they’ll have this next year! John Constantine drawn as a platypus was probably one of my personal favorites! Saturday evening we were lucky enough to be invited to the Charcon after dark party which was an absolute ball. You could purchase hand brewed mead and other drinks and there was Karaoke to be sang. Which our own Ben got to take part in closing out the day.

Day two at Charcon Ben and I got to play in a game created by Robert Vauhn and Antagonist Games. For me this was the Highlight of the convention! The game had a brilliant Victorian London setting and with the system developed for it you only have to use two percentage die. As someone who has played multiple table top games, this by far has one of the most simple and easy to learn systems I’ve seen. Following this we got to take part in a social deduction game called Blood on the Clock tower, which was a great way to cap off our day. This game had tons of roles to play and the interaction between players had to be my favorite part. I’ve only had experiences with social deduction games over the internet, such as town of salem, but being in person is a whole other ballgame and is another I highly encourage you to try at least once.

Sunday was the final day of the convention and a raffle was held to give away fabulous prizes, ranging from dice towers all the way to pre built magnetic dungeon terrain. There was also a stand that you could paint Minis which was awesome to see! From top to bottom this convention was an amazing experience and I definitely look forward to going back next year!
