Frightfully Great Time

Hey CATV followers, its Lauren here with a review of Fright Nights at The Resort at Glade Springs. Last Saturday, October 26th, some members of our group made the trek to Daniels, West Virginia to check out Fright Nights to see what was going on. I am easily probably the biggest chicken of the group, to the point of watching scary movies through my fingers so I knew going through with this haunted adventure was going to be a challenge.

Upon arrival, we could see lights in the distance welcoming us, giving us an illusion of safety since we were not in the haunted house yet. However, even while waiting in line at ticket pick-up, there were cast members dressed to the nines surprising their unsuspecting visitors. Once inside, we began to explore as we waited for our text message that would inform us of when it was our turn to enter the attraction area. There were so many things to do while you were waiting including: a photo op with a fake electric chair, a corn maze, concessions, shopping, mini golf, and more!

Finally, Brandon received our text message that it was time for our group to head to the attraction area. My heart started to pound harder and harder with every step that I took forward in anticipation of what was to come. Once we went through the entrance, we went to an area that looked like Joyce’s house from Stranger Things. We were each given a laser gun to defend ourselves against the aliens in the next part. The aliens were popping out of the walls, and we would use the laser guns to shoot them to make them run away. At one point I’m pretty sure I just kept my gun firing and had my eyes closed. The next part of the attraction was Mr. Beard’s Freaks and Phobias Blacklight Haunt. At this point, think scary clowns, fortune teller predicting death, mermaid bones, etc… I had just caught my breath from screaming when we got outside to the next part, Slaughterhouse: Corn Maze.

When we reached the outside point, the staging was done in a way where all you could really see was the trail you walked down and corn, but then I heard the sound I had been dreading the most. A chainsaw. I guess at this point, this is where my Apple watch probably saw a huge jump in my heart rate. I ended up pushing Brandon through as fast as I could with my eyes closed and my hands gripping the back of his shirt. We reached a corner in the maze, and a pig-masked person with a chainsaw jumped out at us, and I literally did a 180 and cowered behind Brandon. I was 100% sure at that point he was going to have to drag me out of there. Thankfully, we were almost to the next part of the attraction, The Asylum and Deadwood Manor Haunted House. Part of me was so excited to get away from the chainsaw pig man, that I somehow convinced myself that the worst part of my fear from this was behind me. I was wrong. We kept walking along til we got to a room filled with cast members all dressed as nuns from The Conjuring universe. Jump scares were all abound as we kept going into room after room. One of the coolest rooms visually for us, had us walking down a ramp into a room filled with a green laser with a water looking effect. You couldn’t see below your chest, but periodically air would shoot out at your feet. I was ecstatic when we had reached the end, just to see that my Apple watch thought I was having a heart attack.

The level of quality was not something that I had really thought about much going into this, but I was absolutely blown away by all the costumes, make up, stage design, and general acting that Fright Nights had. The way that it seamlessly flowed from one set to another really shows the excellent planning that was put into it.

We at CATV definitely recommend putting in a visit to Fright Nights during any of your spooky time of the year festivities, or you can also check out their event The Fright Before Christmas on December 13th where they will be doing a Christmas/Krampus theme. 10/10 recommend.
